Widely considered the greatest submarine film ever made, Das Boot offers an agonizingly realistic, claustrophobic look at warfare. Unlike typical Hollywood war movies, it doesn't glorify combat; rather, it humanizes the crew, forcing you to empathize with them regardless of their uniform. Das Boot is seen as one of the greatest German films ever made and was nominated for six Academy Awards, including for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for director Wolfgang Petersen.

BOXCAR is collaborating with the Alabama Germany Partnership to bring you our first “German Language FIlm Series”, spotlighting four films to showcase German art, language, and cinema on the second Tuesday from August until November.

Arrive early for a meet and greet starting at 6:00pm to connect with German speakers, cinephiles, and locals. Screenings will begin at 7:00pm.
